I thought someone out there might know how to do that as I am trying to
help a friend with a rather complex Excel formula he has to write and my
rudimentary VB and Excel formula-writing skills are not helping right
offhand.

All he wants is a means of translating a letter grade in a column of cells
into a number (e.g. "A-" or "a-" -> 3.7 or "B+" or "b+" -> 3.3).
